Reading Atomic Habits is the easy part. Running it in your week is where most people stall. This free Atomic Habits workbook is eight printable pages of worksheets that take you from "who do I want to become?" to a habit you've tracked for 30 days.

It's built from our own Atomic Habits summary and its prompts. It's an unofficial workbook from The 20% Vault, not affiliated with or endorsed by James Clear, and it's not the book itself.

What's in the workbook

  1. Systems and identity. Name a goal you've been chasing and the daily system that would produce it. Then write your identity statement, "I'm the type of person who…", and list the small wins that prove it this week.
  2. The Four Laws: build a habit. One worksheet per law: make it obvious (when and where), attractive (pair it with something you enjoy), easy (the two-minute version) and satisfying (the immediate reward, and how you'll track it).
  3. The Four Laws: break a habit. The same laws, inverted: make the bad habit invisible, unattractive, difficult and unsatisfying.
  4. Habit stacking and temptation bundling. Six "After I…, I will…" lines, and three bundles that pair what you need to do with what you want to do.
  5. Environment design. Room by room: how to make the good habit easier and the bad one harder, in your bedroom, kitchen, desk, phone and living room.
  6. The two-minute rule and the Goldilocks zone. Shrink each habit to a version you can start in two minutes, plan the next step up, and note what's too easy or too hard right now.
  7. A 30-day tracker for up to five habits, with the never-miss-twice rule.
  8. Three prompts to go deeper, to use with ChatGPT, Claude or a journal.

How to use it

Don't try to fill in every page in one sitting. Start with identity, then pick one habit and take it through the Four Laws, stacking, environment and two-minute pages. Track it for 30 days before you add a second. If you miss a day, don't miss two.

Prefer it in Notion?

The free Atomic Habits Vault is the same system as a Notion template: eight parts, a workbook for each, 80 applied prompts and a habit tracker. It opens in Notion and duplicates into your own workspace. For a single-page tracker you can print, use the free habit tracker printables.

Atomic Habits summary PDF

If you want the ideas behind the worksheets on paper too, the Atomic Habits summary PDF is our full synthesis in print layout, with two of these worksheets at the end.

What's the best way to use an Atomic Habits workbook?

Work on one habit at a time. Start with your identity statement, design one habit with the Four Laws, make it two minutes long, stack it onto something you already do, and track it for 30 days.
